STEVENS POINT — Next Saturday, locals are welcome to make a few new friends in the mosh pit at Pfiffner Park.

This area is known for its diversity, and this comes with its music scene. This summer has featured The Original Wailers, (reggae) Porky’s Groove Machine, (funk) to Lili K, (hip-hop) and the Sweet Sheiks. (vintage jazz) However, on Saturday, July 21, get your horns ready, as metal will take over Stevens Point.

The Jam’n’July Music Festival will kick off at noon, with music starting at 12:30 p.m., which will run until 10PM that night. This is the fourth annual event, which has become Central Wisconsin’s largest independent music festival.

Many of the thirteen bands that will take the stage are from around the state, including Wausau-based Constance, and Wisconsin-Minnesota based, Terraform. Buried Above Ground will be one of the featured acts out of St. Paul, Minn., as well as Sentinels out of New Jersey.

The headliner, and one of the better-known acts on the metal scene is Massachusetts-based Within the Ruins, who have five albums and three EP’s to their name. While Within the Ruins is a household name to many metal fans, they will play Stevens Point without long-time vocalist Tim Goergen, who left the band in April of 2018. He will be replaced by Steve Tinnon, who is expected to pick up the torch without issue.

“Our event’s focus is to celebrate heavy music and to be a festival where new friendships are made,” said show organizer Ben Kollock. “Our music community is a big family, and we aim to be the biggest family reunion of the year.”

If you aren’t into metal, perhaps you’re into food and beer — as five select vendors will feed the hungry crowd, featuring Chef C’s Munchie Mobile, Hanuman Express, Dilly Dahl Deli, Politos Pizza and C&H Just Chillin Ice Cream. O’so Brewery and Central Waters will also be on tap. An official after-party will be held at Brickhause Tavern, where fans can meet the bands that play throughout the day.
