The start of the second half of the season brought new hopes for the teams in the Central Wisconsin Men’s Golf League that had failed to cash in in the first half, and if Week One results are any indication, there will be some different teams scoring money come the end of August.

The first half winner, Hilltop Too, only managed a half point of the eight possible at Foxfire Golf Club in Waupaca Wednesday, July 11, and finds itself near the bottom of the league standings after one week.

The Point After/Cozy Kitchen squad failed to place in the Top Five in the first half, but won all eight possible points in its matches in Week One.

Top individual scores for the week came from Jim Brummer with a 72, Jim Berg 75, Rory Suomi and John Wachowiak at 77, Dan Parlier 78, and Bernie Prutz, Scott Gile, Kyran Knutson and Scott Krueger at 79.

Low net scores had Brummer, Suomi, Gile, Ken Manske and George Klish at 67; Jeff Blankschien and Prutz 68; Dan Parlier and Jim Berg 69; and John Haka, Sam Catoe and Wachowiak at even-par 70.

Team standings after the first week are: Point After/Cozy Kitchen (8), Midwest Hardware Association (7.5), Jordan Bar (7.5), Hacker Backers (7.5), Rookies Sports Bar (7.5), Big Apple Bagels (4.5), Two Harps Pub (2), Partners Pub (2), Hilltop Pub & Grill (0.5), Hilltop Too (0.5) and Badger Heating/Rice’s Paint (0).

Second-half play continues Wednesday, July 18, as the group heads to Glacier Wood in Iola.
