Rep. Shankland Congratulates Rosholt School District and Stevens Point Christian Academy on Receiving School Safety Grants
MADISON – Today, Rosholt School District was awarded $62,223 and Stevens Point Christian Academy received $19,944 through the school safety grant program created by Wisconsin Act 143.
The funding will be used to help the school districts complete new safety and security plans, as well as other school security upgrades. With the addition of Rosholt School District, all of the public school districts within Assembly District 71 have now received funding through the school safety grant program.
In response, Rep. Katrina Shankland (D-Stevens Point) released the following statement:
“I am delighted to see both Stevens Point Christian Academy and the Rosholt School District being awarded this funding, and I congratulate them! I was glad to vote for this school safety grant funding in the Assembly, and I am grateful to see that the children in these schools will benefit.
“I’m also pleased that, as of this announcement, all of the public school districts in Assembly District 71 have received school safety grants. I applaud the administrators and school leaders who have worked hard to secure these grants and to ensure the safety of their students and staff. All students deserve a safe learning environment that is free from fear, and this funding will help strengthen school security.
“It is also important to note that while this grant funding is a great first step, one-time funding is not sufficient to cover every Wisconsin school’s needs. I hope that in the upcoming session, the legislature will work together with school leaders to institute policies that enhance school safety in a more comprehensive, long-term manner.”
