Letter: The celebration of two past Wisconsin Senators

To the Editor:
Being a bit of a political historian, and the recent celebration of Earth Day, led me to recall the decades Wisconsin was served by two fantastic U. S. Senators.
Gaylord Nelson was the nations ecological voice who championed Earth Day and a plethora of legislation that preserves the quality of our planet. William Proxmire was the economic guru of the country. He was a renegade who fought wasteful spending. He regularly awarded the “Golden Fleece Award” to government boondoggles.
Then my thoughts went to our current Congressman, Ron Kind, who embodies the qualities of both of these iconic leaders. Ron has a deep respect for the environment and has returned thousands of dollars to the treasury by running an efficient but effective Washington office.
This blend is rare in politics, and I am proud he is my Congressman.
