Joseph J. Stanke, age 92, of Stevens Point, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Riverview Lodge in Stevens Point.  He was born on August 9, 1925 in Junction City, the son of Jacob and Mary (Kieliszewski) Stanke.

Joseph was united in marriage to Lorraine Jakusz on May 10, 1947 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Stevens Point.

He attended Stevens Point schools and was employed for Portage County Highway Department for 42 years, retiring in 1985 as a Foreman.

Mr. Stanke was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Holy Name Society of St. Peters, Msgr. McGinley Knights of Columbus Council #1170 and the Stevens Point Moose Lodge #1572.

Joseph enjoyed woodworking, working in his yard, travels with his wife, Polka dancing (especially to Norm Dombrowski and the Happy Notes) and attending and watching his grandchildren’s baseball and football games.

He is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Mark) Milkowski of Stevens Point; grandsons, Joe Milkowski of Wausau, Jim (Ashley Pinkert) Milkowski, of Wausau; and great granddaughter, Penelope “Poppy”; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lorraine in 2004; and numerous other relatives.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St Peter Catholic Church on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 10:30AM with Rev. Dennis Stanchek presiding.  Burial will be in the Guardian Angel Cemetery.

Friends are invited to a visitation at the Pisarski Funeral Home, 703 Second Street on Sunday, July 22 from 4-7:00PM and again on Monday in the St. Faustina Room at St. Peter Church from 9:30 until the Mass.

A Combined Rosary Service with Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday at 7:00PM.

Joe’s family wishes to thank Jennifer and staff at Riverview Lodge and the Ministry Hospice team for the care, companionship, love and care that was generously displayed to our father, grandfather and great grandfather during the last months.

The Pisarski Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.pisarskifuneralhome.com.
