UPDATES: Legion Baseball Region 2 Regional Tournament

Tuesday, July 24

Plover earned a trip to the AAA State Tournament with a 12-3 win over Wisconsin Rapids in the Championship Game of the Regional Tournament at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids Tuesday, July 24.

The Black Sox advanced to the Regional Championship Game with a 13-2 win over Wausau in the 4 p.m game Tuesday.

Monday, July 23

The Plover Black Sox won 7-1 over the Stevens Point Sixers Monday, July 23, to end the Sixers’ season. Wisconsin Rapids won 8-2 over Marshfield in the first game Monday to eliminate Marshfield and advance to the Monday night game against Wausau, where Rapids won 12-2.

That left the three remaining teams in the Regional with one loss each, and sent Rapids to the Regional Championship Game at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 24. Plover will take on Wausau at 4 p.m. Tuesday, with the winner to play Rapids for a trip to the State Tournament.

Sunday, July 22

Marshfield won 8-2 over D.C. Everest in the first game Sunday, July 22, to eliminate Everest from the Legion Regional Tournament at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids, while Wisconsin Rapids stayed alive with a 6-0 win over Plover.

Wausau won 4-0 over Stevens Point Sunday night to advance to Monday, July 23, as the only remaining unbeaten team in the double-elimination tournament, and will play at 7 p.m. Monday against winner of the Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapids game that will be played at 1 p.m. Monday.

Plover will face Point in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Monday, with the winner to advance to the final day of the tournament Tuesday, July 24.

Saturday, July 21

The Plover Black Sox won 17-1 in five innings over D.C. Everest in the American Legion Baseball Regional opener at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids Saturday, July 21, after Plover scored 10 runs in the top of the second inning to jump out to a 12-0 lead.

Wausau won 5-2 over Marshfield Saturday afternoon, while the Stevens Point Sixers beat Wisconsin Valley Legion League co-Champion Wisconsin Rapids 3-2 Saturday night. Point trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning when it scored two runs on a throwing error with two outs, then scored another run on an error on the next play to go up 3-1 on the way to the 3-2 win.

Marshfield will play D.C. Everest in an elimination game at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 22, with Plover to face Wisconsin Rapids at 4 p.m., and Point to square off with Wausau at 7 p.m. at Witter Field.

The winner of the six-team, double-elimination AAA Region 2 Regional Tournament will advance to the AAA State Tournament in Marinette July 27-31.

Game 4: Marshfield 8, D.C. Everest 2 (D.C. Everest eliminated)

Game 5: Wisconsin Rapids 6, Plover 0

Game 6: Wausau 4, Stevens Point 0

Monday, July 23

Game 7: Wisconsin Rapids 8, Marshfield 2 (Marshfield eliminated)

Game 8: Plover 7, Stevens Point 1 (Stevens Point eliminated)

Game 9: Wisconsin Rapids 12, Wausau 2.

Tuesday, July 24

Game 10: Plover 13, Wausau, 2

Game 11: Plover 12, Wisconsin Rapids 3
