Firefighters respond to structure fire on Indiana Avenue

STEVENS POINT — Authorities have released information regarding a structure fire on Indiana Avenue this morning.
According to reports, at 3:31 a.m. this morning a smoke alarm signaled for Stevens Point firefighters to jump into action at a building on 2601 Indiana Ave. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the roof on the north corner of the Apartment building.
The fire was contained to the apartment of origin. No smoke or water damage spread to any other apartments, and the building was evacuated prior to arrival.
Automatic-Aid was received from Plover Fire Departments, and the American Red Cross was called to assist the resident that was displaced by the fire.
During firefighting operations, Stevens Point firefighters safely removed a gecko and guinea pig. Stevens Point Fire Department personnel were on the scene until approximately 6:05 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and there are no reported injuries.
