Obituary: Dawn Newby
Newby, Dawn Joanne (Eckerson) passed away on August 18, 2018. Dawn was born September 5, 1927, in Stevens Point, WI, to Earl and Pearl (Sparhawk) Eckerson. Dawn graduated from PJ Jacobs High School in 1945. On April 19, 1947, Dawn was married to Dale Newby.
Dawn and Dale were active and social people. They belonged to the Moose Club, bowled, golfed, and played cards. They enjoyed taking rides and listening to country music. In their retirement, they made trips to South Padre Island, Texas, during the winter months. Above all, they adored their children and grandchildren.
After her children were grown, Dawn worked in the cafeteria at SPASH along with her sister June until she retired. Dawn was a spirited, fun, and vibrant woman. She loved children, dancing, music, being barefoot, having the sun shining on her, and shopping; always picking up this and that for her family. She had strong opinions and plenty of smarts; she kept her mind keen with crossword puzzles and word finds, jigsaw puzzles, and reading. Dawn’s spunkiness and down-to-earth demeanor drew people to her like a magnet. When Dawn was in the room, you knew it and you smiled.
Dawn in survived by her children Barb Lutz of Eau Claire, WI, Don (Maggie) Newby of Custer, WI, and Gary (Elaine) Newby of Plover, WI; her grandchildren Kelly Dawn (Eric) Muller, Kristin (BJ) Kays, Heather Carroll, Jennifer (Dakota) Pongratz, Kurt Nowacki and Becky Nowacki; her great-grandchildren Marah, Sam, Annalise Barbara Dawn, Devin, William, Brady, Josh, Aleeshea, Nolan, Michael, Lucas, Garrett and Waylon; and her sister June (Eckerson) Wrzinski. Dawn is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dawn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; her sister Marguerite Sanks; her brothers John “Jack” Eckerson and Earl “Nookie” Eckerson; and her son-in-law Jim Lutz.
