Senator Patrick Testin Nominates Local Company’s Craft Spirit for “Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin”

PLOVER – Local distillery Great Northern Distilling has been nominated for the “coolest thing made in Wisconsin” by a local legislator.

Great Northern Distilling’s potato vodka has won medals at national and international competitions. This fall, they are in the running for even more recognition– the title of “Coolest Thing Made in WI”.

Sen. Patrick Testin (R-Stevens Point) nominated the craft spirit made from local potatoes, for the title in a contest put on annually by the state’s chamber of commerce, WMC (Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce).

“Over the last two decades, craft distilling has grown from a concept to an emerging industry,” said Testin. “Great Northern Distilling started operations in 2013, and they’ve already made their mark by producing quality, award-winning craft spirits made from mostly local ingredients. The potato vodka I’ve nominated is made from potatoes grown in Portage County by local farmers. The product and the story behind it make it a strong contender for ‘Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin’.”

“We’re honored to be nominated by Senator Testin for WMC’s  “Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin” contest,” said Brian Cummins, the founder of Great Northern Distilling. “The process of hand crafting our potato vodka from fresh local potatoes is difficult, but rewarding. All of the employees of Great Northern would be proud to win this as an acknowledgment of their hard work and dedication to crafting the smoothest vodka in Wisconsin.”

WMC is still accepting product nominations until Friday, August 31st at www.MadeinWis.com. The first round of voting will open on Monday, September 10.
