Cinema Spotlight: Crazy Rich Asians
Review by Claire Hoenecke
Crazy Rich Asians is everything you want it to be and more.
The film’s hilarious yet sincere cast knocks it out of the park. Constance Wu plays the charming and fierce Rachel Chu as she visits her boyfriend’s insanely rich family in Singapore. Each member of the family has their own unique quirk, so there is never a dull moment in the film. Ultimately, Awkwafina steals the show with her performance as Rachel’s former college roommate Peik Lin. After her equally entertaining performance in this summer’s Ocean’s 8, Awkwafina has established herself as a comedy star who will no doubt be the highlight of many films to come.
Crazy Rich Asians is more than just a standard romantic comedy. It has its own unique aesthetic with bright colors and catchy music. The fashion is gorgeous, and the food will have you drooling in the theatre. The film is clever, beautiful, and touching. It’s the perfect movie for a date night or a outing with friends.
Rated: PG-13 (for some suggestive content and language)
