STEVENS POINT — Fire Chief Robert Finn has asked city officials for the creation of a Fire Marshal.
Finn describes the reason for the creation as “the need for fire department personnel to be trained and maintain a constant state of readiness…” This also frees up other department personnel to manage and conduct training between 911 calls.
In addition, this position will serve fire inspections, as over 1,500 are conducted throughout the city. This person would work closely with the city inspection department to ensure efficiency in permits, code, inspections, among other duties. The position will also serve as an added eye to the department’s investigation team when it comes to the investigation of fire scenes.
Finally, the position would also serve the community by way of educating individuals on fire safety and the Fire Explorer program.
The anticipated salary of the position is approximately $62,338, which will not require any additional levy dollars.
This will see a final vote through city council on Sept. 17.
