STEVENS POINT — Portage County officials are urging state legislators to find a sustainable transportation funding solution.
The signed resolution reads :
“…the Portage County Board of Supervisors urges the Governor and Legislature to ‘Just Fix It’ and agree upon a sustainable transportation funding solution: one that includes a responsible level of bonding and adjusts our user fees to adequately and sustainably fund Wisconsin’s transportation system. Furthermore, the County Board of Supervisors directs the Clerk to send a copy of this resolution to our State Legislators and to Governor Scott Walker.”
Just Fix It Wisconsin is an organization led by the Transportation Development Association that seeks to provide sufficient funding for Wisconsin’s roads. According to the TDA, no long-term solution has been identified for the state’s road funding problem.
As of February 2018, Wisconsin’s roads rank 44th in the nation, according to a U.S. News and World Report ranking. Dozens of counties and municipalities across Wisconsin have adopted a similar resolution urging action to help mend Wisconsin’s roads.
