PLOVER — The Village of Plover and partners will host a groundbreaking ceremony and media event to celebrate the commencement of the first phase on-the-ground restoration projects to be implemented as part of the Little Plover River Watershed Enhancement Project (LPRWEP).

The event is scheduled to take place Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018, rain or shine, from 9:30 a.m. – 10:00 am at the Little Plover River Conservancy Area on Black Oak Drive. Media and members of the community are invited.

The program will include remarks from Village Administrator Dan Mahoney and several invited speakers about:  the goals of the project, the location and objectives of the restoration work occurring across the watershed, and the regional and statewide significance of the collaboration.  Informational handouts and project maps will be provided.

The program will end with a photo opportunity and Q&A with Mahoney and project partners.

Following the program, participants are invited to take a short driving tour to learn about additional restoration work that is taking place in, adjacent to, and upstream of the Little Plover River.  Collaborators from Montgomery Associates, Wisconsin Wetlands Association, and UW Stevens Point will be at the sites to discuss the objectives of these stream and wetland restoration activities.

The LPRWEP is a multiparty collaboration convened by the Village of Plover to improve the health of the Little Plover River and the quality of life of the surrounding community. The LPRWEP aims to use best available data and voluntary conservation actions to:

  • Increase the flow and improve the aquatic health of the Little Plover River.
  • Implement voluntary water management projects that improve the health of the Little Plover River Watershed.
  • Improve and expand fish and wildlife habitat and public recreation opportunities and access.

Information about the project or the

October 4th program is available from Dan Mahoney, (715) 345-5250 or [email protected]

Directions to the Oct. 4 Ground Breaking Ceremony:  Park at the intersection of Black Forest Drive and Twin Towers and follow signs/walk North to enter the property.
