AMHERST JUNCTION — One woman is dead, and a man is injured after a Sunday afternoon crash on Highway 10.

According to reports, at 12:15 p.m. an accident was reported on U.S. Highway 10 at County Highway B (CTH B) near Amherst Junction. A 2007 Lincoln Town Car traveled westbound on US 10 and exited on CTH B. The vehicle approached the bottom of the off ramp at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at the stop sign located at the
bottom of the ramp.

The Lincoln traveled across both lanes of County Highway B and entered the north ditch along the westbound on-ramp to U.S. Highway 10. The vehicle rolled over multiple times and came to rest on its roof in a field north of the on-ramp.

The 82-year-old female driver died at the scene as a result of her injuries, and the 81-year-old male passenger received non-life threatening injuries in the crash. He was transported by ambulance to Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.

Names are being withheld pending notification of the families. The crash is being investigated by the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Assisting agencies included Portage County Sheriff’s Department, Stevens Point Fire Department,
and Amherst Fire District.
