STEVENS POINT — A local man has plead not guilty on Monday for attempting to murder his ex-girlfriend by setting her bed on fire.
According to court documents, 61-year-old Gary McDonald’s home was being foreclosed on, and was in the process of being evicted. On Aug. 24, he got home to his residence at approximately 2AM. He would find his ex-girlfriend asleep in a basement bedroom with another man, and became enraged.
McDonald allegedly went to the garage to grab a can of gasoline, and attempted to set the bed they were sleeping in on fire. He also started two other fires in the residence.
McDonald has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, arson, and reckless endangerment. His next court date is scheduled for Nov. 5
