Horseshoe Club competes at State Tournament

Members of the Stevens Point Horseshoe Club competed at the 96th Wisconsin State Horseshoe Tournament at Mosinee Saturday through Monday, Sept. 1-3.

The Stevens Point Horseshoe Club brought home plenty of hardware, as it earned five first-place finishes, two second-place finishes and two third-place finishes.

Veronica Groshek led Women’s Class A, as she earned a first-place finish and a spot in the Women’s Championship Class Sunday, where she averaged a personal best ringer percentage of 53.19 percent.

Club member Jedidiah Sowatzke from Wisconsin Rapids also garnered elite status, as he earned first place in the Cadet Boys class.

Also taking first place was Bev Hans in Women’s Class B, Jason Villwock in Men’s Class D and Ron Studinski in Men’s Class G.

Taking second place was Craig Hans in Men’s Class G and Zak Rodriguez in Men’s Class H.

Taking third place was Dean Groshek in Men’s Class A and Mike Ezell in Men’s Class G.

Also receiving recognition as “Class C – Pitcher of the Year” was Fred Lane.
