It was a big week for area high school football teams, with all five in action Friday, Oct. 5.

Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) rolled to 55-7 win over Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln on Homecoming Friday night to keep the Ol’ River Jug.

Earlier Friday at Community Stadium at Goerke Field, fourth-ranked Amherst won 35-8 over Pacelli Catholic High School.

Rosholt lost 32-6 at home to reigning Division 6 State Semifinalist Markesan in its final nonconference game of the season.

And with lead in the Central Wisconsin Conference (CWC) CWC-Small on the line, Almond-Bancroft went on the road and beat sixth-ranked Pittsville 34-7 to clinch at least a share of the Conference Title.

The Eagles used a three-yard touchdown run from junior running back Jackson Beggs with 31 seconds left in the second quarter to take a 6-0 lead into halftime, and then scored on a 74-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Jon Perrin to senior running back Zach Bunders with 6:38 to play in the third quarter to make it 14-0 after Perrin connected with Bunders on the two-point conversion pass.

Pittsville scored on a 10-yard touchdown run with 11:52 remaining in the fourth quarter to pull within 14-7, but Almond junior Matt Lukas returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to give the Eagles a 20-7 lead with 11:38 to go in the fourth quarter.

Beggs added a five-yard touchdown run with 8:09 left and an eight-yard touchdown run with 2:34 to play to close out the scoring on the 34-7 win, as he rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries in the win.

Perrin completed 6-of-7 passes for 146 yards, with one touchdown and zero interceptions, while the Almond defense came away with four turnovers, as Bunders, Perrin and junior cornerback Elijah Kollock each had an interception.
