Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band to perform at UW-Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT — Enjoy a spectrum of jazz sounds from big band to modern works as the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble perform in concert on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point. A wide variety of genres will be performed, including swing, blues, Latin, bop and modern, with featured student soloists.
The Jazz Band will perform “In Roy’s Corner” by Sammy Nestico, Louis Bellson and Dave Black, “Lullaby of Birdland” by George Shearing, “Modal Mood” by Bob Bockholt, “Blue Highways” by Paul Ferguson and “Inside Out” by Matt Harris. The band is directed by Myles Boothroyd, assistant professor of saxophone.
The Jazz Ensemble will perform “B.B.C.” by Bob Florence, “Max (Revised)” by Jeff Hamilton, “Dali” by Ted Nash, “Just Friends” by John Klenner and Sam M. Lewis, “Cabesa de Carne” by Matt Harris and “Better Git Hit in Your Soul” by Charles Mingus. The ensemble is directed Mathew Buchman, professor and director of Jazz Studies.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, $5 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out.
