Letter: Vote YES on health care center referendum
To the Editor:
Don’t be confused by the wording of the Portage County Health Care Center referendum question on the November 6th ballot.
As is often the case, it’s a paragraph of legalize that leaves voters bewildered. The bottom line is a YES vote simply means the health care center will have the revenue to operate for at least the next four years. Property taxes will increase $24.48 per $100,000 of assessed valuation and the health care center committee will have ample time to carefully plan for the future of the facility.
If the referendum fails, the health care center may be forced to close.
That’s a risk we can’t afford to take. No one likes to pay more taxes but I’m willing to make the necessary adjustments to my personal budget to cover this modest increase to ensure our most vulnerable elderly and disabled continue to receive the dignified quality care they deserve.
A YES vote also preserves good paying county jobs not to mention operational oversight of this vital skilled nursing facility. Join me in voting YES for the Portage County Health Care Center Referendum question on the November 6th ballot.
Let’s keep the health care center county owned and operated for generations to come.
Sincerely,
Nancy Roppe
