Former Portage County Sheriff gives Red Kettle Campaign a “lift”

Gazette Staff
STEVENS POINT – The Salvation Army of Portage County kicks off the 2018 Red Kettle Campaign with a unique event on Saturday, Nov. 10. Former Portage County Sheriff John Charewicz will be perched in a bucket high above the Trig’s-Stevens Point parking lot until 100 Red Kettle bell ringing shifts are filled.
“I Shifted the Sheriff” begins at 9:00 AM on that Saturday. Bell ringers can stop by the brat hut outside Trig’s to register, 1600 Academy Ave.
Sign UP to get Sheriff John DOWN.
A lap top computer with access to the on-line bell ringing registry will be set-up at the event to register ringers in real time.
“I believe very strongly in the mission of the Salvation Army and the great work they do in Portage County,” said Charewicz. “When I said ‘I’m game for anything’, I had no idea it would mean being perched above a parking lot recruiting bell ringers! But to steal a phrase from It’s A Wonderful Life, ‘Every time a shift fills, the sheriff will be thrilled.”
The Salvation Army would like to thank Disher Electric for donating the lift for the event. To sign up for shifts anytime, go to RegisterToRing.com and create an account. You can also call the Salvation Army of Portage County at 715-341-2437. Select from shifts at 10 locations Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 8 PM in Stevens Point and Plover.
