Letter: A Vote for Tammy Baldwin for US Senate is a Vote for the Environment
To the Editor:
The writing is on the wall. The recent report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is very clear. We have just 10, maybe 12, years to get it right. We need to build a groundswell of individuals, groups, and legislators to turn back the trajectory of rising CO2 levels that we are currently on. Our US Senator Tammy Baldwin is working to do just that, and she deserves to be returned to the Senate on November 6.
Senator Baldwin received a 97% pro-environment lifetime Scorecard from the League of Conservation Voters. In voting to protect the Arctic Refuge, to reduce methane production by the oil and gas industry, and to protect threatened wildlife, Senator Baldwin has proven that she clearly understands the dangers to our life on this planet as we know it if we continue to proceed down the paths we are on.
In contrast, Senator Baldwin’s opponent, State Senator Leah Vukmir has received a 20% lifetime Scorecard from the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters. In Wisconsin, Vukmir has voted in favor of the industrial acid-mining legislation, dropping state protections for wetlands, and exempting Foxconn from state clean water protections. Vukmir is clearly not the person to speak for the environment and for the future of all of us on the national level.
Vote Baldwin for Senate on November 6.
