Amherst’s run ends against Springs
The three-time defending WIAA Division 5 State Champion Amherst High School football team had its run end in a tight game against top-ranked Fond du Lac Saint Mary’s Springs at Lomira Friday, Nov. 2.
The third-ranked and third-seeded Falcons (9-3) trailed 6-0 at halftime against reigning Division 6 State Champion Springs (12-0) in their WIAA Division 5 Level 3 Playoff Game Friday night, as Springs had 91 yards of total offense in the first half and Amherst totaled 56 yards.
Springs held on to its 6-0 lead until the fourth quarter, when it used a 10-yard touchdown pass to go up 12-0 with 5:09 to play. Amherst drove into Springs territory, but a fourth down pass fell incomplete in the end zone with 3:02 left, and Springs ran out the rest of the clock to win 12-0.
