Letter: Participate in the inaugural “I Shifted the Sheriff” event

Dear Editor:

I invite Portage County to share our blessings this Christmas season, and be blessed in return. So many of our central Wisconsin neighbors are struggling to get by and provide for their families. People are turning to the Salvation Army of Portage County for help with food, clothing, bills, or to simply keep a roof over their heads.

There are many ways to help.  You can participate in the inaugural “I Shifted the Sheriff” event on Saturday, November 10th at Trig’s in Stevens Point.  Former Portage County Sheriff John Charewicz will remain high above the parking lot at Trig’s in a lift, until 100 bell ringing shifts are filled. Stop by between 10 AM and 5 PM.

Speaking of ringing bells, you can register any time at one of 10 kettle locations throughout Portage County.  The red kettle campaign runs through December 24th, with ringing shifts Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 8 PM. Please visit RegisterToRing.com to find out more about how you can help or call the Salvation Army at 715-341-2437 to volunteer.

Your support of the Salvation Army, through volunteer work or a donation, will make a real difference for someone in need. You’ll give them hope — and you’ll be amazed at what you’ll get out of giving.

We look forward to seeing you at the Red Kettle kick-off on November 10th or ringing bells at a kettle throughout the Christmas season.  We are truly blessed to call Portage County and Central Wisconsin home. Thanks for sharing your blessings!
