Obituary: David J. Katzmark
David J. Katzmark, of Stevens Point passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Nov. 4, 2018 at Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital with his loving wife of 61 years by his side.
He was born August 25, 1929 in the town of New Hope to the late Alois and Mary (Domaszek) Katzmark. He is a graduate of P.J. Jacobs High School. Following high school he entered the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and served for four years. He was an airplane mechanic at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois.
He was honorably discharged in 1954 as Sergeant. Dave was proud to have participated on The Never Forgotten Honor Flight on May 19, 2014 where he was accompanied by his son. He married Agnes Cychosz on September 7, 1957 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Stevens Point. While dating, he enrolled in Lee School of Barbering in St. Paul, Minnesota. After graduating he worked in Appleton for 5 years before moving to Stevens Point and opening the Campus Barber Shop. In 1967 he opened Dave’s Barber Shop at his home. He barbered for 60 years. He was also employed at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point in the maintenance department. Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, walking, camping and chopping wood. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially the Packers and boxing.
Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Dave is survived by his wife, Agnes, and three dedicated children: Mike Katzmark, Stevens Point, Carol Katzmark, Wisconsin Rapids, and Tammy Katzmark, Stevens Point; and two nieces: Patty Disher and Kathy Disher. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister and brother-in-law Lorraine (Ed) Disher. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Stevens Point with the Rev. Arul Joseph V. officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Family and friends may visit after 9:00 a.m. at the St. Faustina room of St. Peter’s Church until the time for mass.
