To the Editor and the Community:

I can’t think of a better kick-off for Education Week than that given by the entire community to our kids and staff on Nov. 6 passing BOTH referenda for our schools!

On behalf of the Stevens Point Area Retired Teachers’ Association, I want to thank you all for your support! I strongly believe that public education is the backbone of our democracy.

It prepares our children to hold good jobs, broadens their knowledge and experience to function in our modern world, and teaches them to love and appreciate the sacrifices of those who have gone before them!

Students in many of our schools continue to honor and remember our veterans by hosting special programs, entertaining them at lunches, or writing cards and letters-just a few timely examples of a role that public schools continue to fulfill.

Thanks to our teachers and support staff, administrators and bus drivers, and to you, our caring community!
