Update: Names released in pedestrian vs. vehicle incident

STEVENS POINT — An update has been given to the condition of a man struck by a vehicle last Monday.
According to police reports, on Nov.5, officers were sent to the intersection of Business 51 and Madison Street for reports of an accident involving a vehicle striking an individual. The vehicle was traveling northbound on 51 and hit the pedestrian in the crosswalk, who was reportedly running eastbound.
According to information obtained by traffic control, the northbound light was green. The pedestrian was transported from the scene with significant injuries.
The driver was a 50-year-old Stevens Point man now identified as Michael L. Smith, of Stevens Point.
The pedestrian has been identified as Harrison K. Helfand, 57 years old, also from Stevens Point. Helfand remains hospitalized from injures sustained from the accident.
Authorities have stated that no charges or citations have been issued as of yet concerning this incident. A determination will be made upon completion of an accident reconstruction by the State Patrol.
