STEVENS POINT — A motion passed in Common Council on Nov. 19, 2018, to annex territory in the town of Hull to the city of Stevens Point.

The parcel of land, located at 3313 and 3319 E. Maria Dr. contains approximately .79 acres. Those in attendance were happy to see the motion go through seamlessly.

“The territory described in Section 1 [3313 and 3319 E. Maria Dr.] lying in the town of Hull shall remain a part of the 24th State Senate District, remain a part of the 70th State Assembly District, shall become a part of the 8th County Board Supervisory District, become a part of the 8th Aldermanic District, and shall become the 47th Ward of the City of Stevens Point subject to the ordinances, rules and regulations of the City, County, and State governing districts,” stated the Common Council agenda.

There was not a single rejection when the discussion on the annexation took place. All of Common Council seemed to be in agreement.

“These folks will be bringing a piece of property into the city of Stevens Point from the town of Hull. I welcome them and have spoken to them,” said Cathy Dugan, Alderperson representing the Eighth District. “This is a good beginning to smooth the jagged boundaries between Stevens Point and Hull.”

The newly acquired area has a single resident. The property may be modest, but it is a significant step in forming a more cohesive Portage County. According to the Common Council agenda,

“the city of Stevens Point shall pay annually to the town of Hull for a period of five years, an amount equal to the amount of property taxes that the town levied for municipal purposes on the annexed territory, as shown by the tax roll under Wis. Stat. §70.65, in the year in which the annexation is final.”

For more info on the annexation of the territory contact the city of Stevens Point at 715-346-1569.
