UW-Stevens Point faculty, staff and services honored for excellence

STEVENS POINT — The following faculty and staff members and services have been recognized for excellence at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

  • Corinna Neeb, emergency management specialist, graduated from Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Emergency Management Advanced Academy at the Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Md. Neeb completed the full curriculum that provides the strategic level training and education and the essential skills needed for emergency management professionals to lead dynamic and resilient emergency management programs. She completed four one-week resident courses in the Advanced Academy including: A Survey of Advanced Concepts in Emergency Management, Assessment and Application of Professional Style in Emergency Management, Advanced Concepts and Issues in the Emergency Management Organization and Advanced Concepts and Issues in the Emergency Management Community and Profession.
  • Chemistry Professor Jason D’Acchioli has been named a VIPEr Fellow by the National Science Foundation as part of an innovative study to develop, test and refine a flexible, foundation-level inorganic chemistry course. As one of the first 20 faculty members selected for this chemistry education project, he will join other inorganic chemists from across the country in improving student learning. The study is being led by the Interactive Online Network of Inorganic Chemists and will include classroom observations, analysis of student work, student surveys and faculty interviews.   • Melissa Meschke, director of the Small Business Development Center through UW-Stevens Point Continuing Education, was one of 11 finalists for the 2018 ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award® through the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes emerging leaders under 40 years old who demonstrate excellence, creativity and initiative in their business or profession, who provide valuable service by contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community and serve as a role model for young women personally and professionally.
  • UW-Stevens Point’s Dining and Summer Conferences (DSC) won an Outreach and Education Silver Award in the National Association of College and University Food Services 2018 Sustainability Awards. The award recognizes DSC’s Focus on Foods lecture series on maintaining a sustainable diet. The series was open to students, faculty and staff and community members, offered course credit and was led by a registered dietitian.
