STEVENS POINT — The Never Forgotton Honor Flight was presented a $4,500 check by local organization Guns N’ Hoses on Wednesday morning.

The honor flight is a non-profit organization of volunteers who fly veterans out to Washington D.C. to visit their memorials. The organization will fly out as many veterans as possible from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The trip comes at no cost to veterans.

“You guys have been one of our goldstar supporters.” said President of the Board of Directors of Honor Flight, Mike Thompson to law enforcement in attendance.

In 2018, the organization has flown 10 World War II veterans, 60 Korean War veterans, and 322 Vietnam veterans. They have carried out 34 missions in nine years, including flying 247 veterans out from Portage County.

“I’d like to say that I’ve never received so much appreciation for a gift that I’ve given,” said Thompson. “It’s amazing, the letters and cards and emails that we receive from the veterans and families that have flown with us.”

Over the last five years, Guns N’ Hoses have donated $69,500 to the Never Forgotten Honor Flight.
