Rosholt girls win pair, keep pace in CWC South

The Rosholt High School girls basketball team remained near the top of the Central Wisconsin Conference (CWC) South standings with a pair of wins in the last week.

The Hornets won at home over Port Edwards Friday, Dec. 14, to improve to 3-1 in the conference and a half-game behind Pacelli (3-0) in the CWC South standings, and followed with a nonconference win at Marion Tuesday, Dec. 18,

After a 51-49 loss in its conference opener at Pacelli Dec. 4, Rosholt came back with wins over Almond-Bancroft (56-46) Dec. 7 and Wild Rose (61-51) Dec. 11, heading into its game at home against Port Edwards Friday night.

The Hornets went into halftime down 24-22, but outscored Port 35-23 in the second half to rally for a 57-47 victory.

Senior forward Kenzie Stalter was 12-of-14 from the free-throw line and finished with 18 points and eight rebounds; senior guard Ashley Studzinski had 10 points, five rebounds and five assists; senior forward Justine Ganski totaled eight points and seven rebounds; and junior guard Jenna Trzebiatowski added eight points in the win.

“Solid defensive play by Rosholt was the key in this game,” said Rosholt girls basketball head coach Stacey Krogwold. “We handled the ball well and had a decent rebounding night, both on the offensive and defensive boards.

“We also capitalized at the line, having one of the better free-throw percentages we have had so far this season,” she said. “Looking at it, the girls played well in many aspects of the game, and that is what helped them come out on top.”

Rosholt was back in action Tuesday night at Marion, where the Hornets stormed out to take a 28-8 lead into halftime.

The Hornets cruised in the second half to a 44-22 win, as 11 different players broke into the scoring column.

Ganski finished with seven points and 10 rebounds, and Ashley Studzinski had eight points and four rebounds to lead Rosholt (6-3), which is off until it hosts Weyauwega-Fremont at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3.
