Week in Review: Dec. 19-25

Area high school sports results from Wednesday, Dec. 19, through Tuesday, Dec. 25.
SPASH
Boys basketball: Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) (4-3, 2-0) won 75-63 at Antigo Thursday, Dec. 20. The Panthers led 38-29 at halftime, and outscored Antigo 37-34 in the second half to close out the win.
Adam Willoughby went 9-of-12 from three-point range and finished with a career-high 29 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Evan Vollendorf totaled 17 points, 13 rebounds and four assists; Nolan Blair had 12 points and five assists; and Brenden Klish added 10 points and five rebounds.
Boys hockey: The sixth-ranked Panthers (9-1-0, 4-0) won 8-2 at D.C. Everest Thursday, Dec. 20. Noah Spurlin scored on assists from Lucca Weinkauf and Cole Beilke at the 13:56 mark of the first period to give SPASH a 1-0 lead, while Everest scored a power-play goal with 29 seconds left in the period to tie the game at 1-1.
Dayne Hoyord scored an unassisted goal 3:10 into the second period to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead, but Everest answered 33 seconds later with a goal to tie it at 2-2. It stayed that way until Spurlin had a goal on assists from Beilke and Austin Conley at the 12:50 mark to put SPASH ahead 3-2, while Barrett Brooks had an unassisted short-handed goal at 13:30 to make it 4-2, and Hoyord struck with an unassisted short-handed goal 20 seconds later to push the lead to 5-2.
Brooks scored on an assist from Hoyord at 4:27 of the third period, Trey Zagrzebski had a goal on an assist from Brooks at 7:51, and Hoyord scored on an assist from Jake Minch at 11:41 to cap the scoring on the 8-2 win.
Hoyord finished with three goals and an assist, Brooks had two goals and an assist, and Spurlin scored two goals, while Spencer Wierzba made 14 saves.
Wrestling: SPASH lost 46-22 at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln Thursday, Dec. 20. Max Kvatek (113 pounds) won by pin in 3:46, Justin Groshek (120) won by a 15-2 major decision, Brett Johnston (152) won by pin in 5:09, and Jaren Rohde (285) won by pin in 3:55 for the Panthers.
PACELLI
Boys basketball: Pacelli (2-6, 2-1) lost 83-43 to Division 5 sixth-ranked Almond-Bancroft Friday, Dec. 21.
Girls basketball: The Cardinals (6-1, 4-0) won 50-43 at Almond-Bancroft Thursday, Dec. 20. Pacelli led 20-16 at halftime, then outscored Almond 30-27 in the second half to seal the win.
Sarah Mueller finished with 19 points, five rebounds and four assists; Sami Miller had 11 points and 10 rebounds; and Amanda Klasinski totaled 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Boys hockey: The Pacelli co-op (4-1) won 4-2 at Rhinelander Thursday, Dec. 20. Carter Snyder scored on an assist from Mason Bushman at the 15:24 mark of the first period to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead, while Rhinelander scored a pair of goals in the opening 7:47 of the second period to take a 2-1 lead.
It stayed that way until the third period, when Richard Zupan scored 55 seconds into the period on assists from Bryce Huettner and Seth Shulfer to tie the game at 2-2.
Snyder struck with an unassisted goal at the 7:59 mark to give Pacelli a 3-2 lead, while Zach Clark scored an empty-net goal with 35 seconds remaining to close out the 4-2 win. Huettner made 27 saves in the victory.

AMHERST
Girls basketball: Fourth-ranked Amherst (8-1, 5-0) won 65-30 over Wausau East Friday, Dec. 21. The Falcons led 34-17 at halftime, then outscored Wausau East 31-13 in the second half to roll to the victory.
Erin Lutz scored 13 points, and Ashley Groshek and Lindsay Dose each scored nine points to lead the win.
Wrestling: The Falcons lost 48-33 to Shiocton Thursday, Dec. 20. Lucas Edelburg (220 pounds) won by pin in 1:03, Mason Haas (160) won by pin in 3:04 and Houston Ciesielski (195) won 7-4, while Jarrett Morgan (132) and Bryce Wendlandt (152) won by forfeit.

Boys basketball: Sixth-ranked Almond (7-0, 4-0) won 83-43 at Pacelli Friday, Dec. 21.
Girls basketball: The Eagles (4-5, 2-3) lost 50-43 to Pacelli Thursday, Dec. 20. Almond trailed 20-16 at halftime and kept the game close in the second half, but Pacelli used a 30-27 advantage after intermission to close out the win.
Melissa Perzinski scored 13 points, Angela Rogers had 12 points, and Michaela Strucker added 11 points.
Wrestling: The Almond/Bancroft-Pacelli Warbirds won 28-27 at Tri-County Thursday, Dec. 20. Drew Kedrowicz (126 pounds) won by a 9-0 major decision, while Evan Ramczyk (182), Derek Lockhart (220) and David Trevino (285) each won by forfeit.
