WAUPACA – The Pacelli co-op boys hockey team came up short in the first round of a holiday boys’ hockey tournament.
Waupaca outshot the Cardinals 42-12 and handed Pacelli (4-2) a 9-0 defeat Thursday, Dec. 27.
Jack Erspamer recorded the Comets’ fifth hat trick of the season with three first-period goals.
He scored the Comets’ first three goals and Eli Bartel’s goal with 3.8 seconds remaining in the period gave Waupaca a 4-0 lead at the break.
The Comets added to their lead in the second period on goals from Bartel, Mitchell Trzebiatowski and Branden Koski before Jed Vanden Bush and Cody Rasmussen found the net in the third period.
Bryce Huettner made 33 saves for Pacelli, which is set to play West Bend in the second day of the tournament at the Waupaca Ice & Expo Center at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28.
The Cardinals are also scheduled to take on Whitefish Bay in the final day of the tournament at noon Saturday, Dec. 29.
