Letter: Thanks to all who took part in Kickin’ Cancer with Keira benefit

To the Editor:
The Weber Family would like to extend deepest gratitude to all those who took part in the Kickin’ Cancer with Keira benefit on Saturday, Dec. 8.
Keira (3-years-old) was diagnosed with large B cell lymphoma with an IRF 4 rearrangement in July. She had undergone two surgeries followed by several months of aggressive chemotherapy, which included nine spinal taps to treat the cerebrospinal fluid. Her prognosis is good, and we are praying that the treatment has been effective enough that the cancer never returns.
Funds raised at the benefit help ease the financial burden of medical costs, travel expenses (to the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee), loss of income with mom unable to work during treatment months, and the follow up appointments that will continue for several years post treatment.
Having a child go through cancer is one of the most emotionally difficult things a parent can go through in life. It has been a major relief to set aside financial worry and focus on being ever present with our child as she walks this path. When Keira was initially diagnosed, we had felt that we were very alone. We were quickly reminded that love and support from friends, family, and the community are close at hand, and we feel so blessed!
Thank you so very much!
