STEVENS POINT — 33-year-old Ann Vang has announced her candidacy for the Stevens Point Area Public School District School Board.
Vang is a lifelong resident of Stevens Point who believes our public schools are the bedrock of our community. Her campaign slogan is Happy Teachers, Healthy Kids, Bright Futures.
“I have a wealth of experience with Stevens Point schools, as a student, a parent, and a advocate for youth,” said Vang. “I look forward to bringing my voice and experience to the school board.”
Vang works with youth in her role as Hmong Family Strengthening Coordinator at CAP Services in Stevens Point.
“Working with youth, I’ve come to see gaps in the District’s approach to mental health, particularly for students of color. There’s no culturally specific approach to that,” said Vang.
Vang would like more investment in existing teachers and staff. With better resources and training, teachers can better address the complex needs of all students.
“The health and wellbeing of the students is the first thing,” said Vang..”Healthy kids equal educated kids.”
Vang and her husband, Tou Xiong Lee, have six children. All five of their school age children attend schools in the district.
Vang attended Stevens Point schools, graduating from Stevens Point Area Senior High School in 2003. She earned her associates degree in Supervisory Management at Mid-State Technical College.
