Planning members approve plans for Hull subdivision

STEVENS POINT — Planning commission members moved forward with an approval of a new subdivision in the Town of Hull on Monday, Jan. 7.

The subdivision will be called “Hidden Brook”, and would be located at 1108 Woodview Dr. in Hull. The city recommended that there must be a connection beyond the cul-de-sac of the development to extend the roadway to allow for future growth.

District 8 Alderperson Cathy Dugan spoke out against the development.

“This proposed division is a sprawl development in a wetland area, no less, and and according to city staff’s notes that we’ve been given, this development has ‘significant negative impacts for the city’ — both currently, and in the future,” said Dugan. “I ask you not to approve it.”

District 9 Alderperson Mary McComb spoke in favor of the development.

“I like to look at things area-wide, or city-wide, and not just one at a time, and we’ve been talking about how the Slingshot Development meets certain housing choices  – it would appeal to certain people — and this is another choice,” said McComb. “…my only concern is that is there some way that property owners or home buyers can not harm the wetlands? I think this is a good choice — it adds to the diversification of housing choices in the area.”
