Obituary: Norbert J. Hoerth, Sr.

Norbert J. Hoerth, Sr., 94, formerly of Van Dyne, died Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Ascension St. Michaels Hospital in Stevens Point where he currently lived. He was born Friday, June 27, 1924 in Jericho, Wis., a son of Isadore and Katherine (Merrill) Hoerth. On Wednesday, August 29, 1945, Norbert married Helen Guelig at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg.
Until 1948, Norbert farmed on the family homestead in Jericho. It was in 1948 that Norbert and his family moved to the Van Dyne area, having purchased a farm. In 1956, he started a seed and fertilizer business which along with farming was successful for over fifty years. He was always happy when he would working outside planting berry bushes, cutting grass, or gardening.
He loved dancing and traveling; including to Alaska, Santiago, Chile, the Andes Mountains, Hawaii, Germany and the Bahamas. He had a smile that lit up the sky.
Norbert is survived by his seven children, Norbert (Kathy) Hoerth, Jr., Allen (Donna) Hoerth, Gary Hoerth, Linda Nelson, Janet Weber, Judy (Steve) Hansen and Michael (Wendy) Hoerth; sixteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Louise Sobczak.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isadore and Katherine; his former wife, Helen; five siblings, Leo Hoerth, Francis (Hildegard) Hoerth, Agnes (Helmuth) Walz, Esther (Robert) Schreiber and Hilda Barber Stults; a son-in-law, Robert Weber; and a step-granddaughter, Angela Christensen.
Visitation was held from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave. in Fond du lac. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM. Cremation will follow the service.
