Letter: Vote Mary McComb on Feb. 19

To the Editor:

On Feb. 19 a primary will be held for District 9 Alderperson.  There are three candidates but, in my view, one stands out from the others: Mary McComb.

I have known Mary for many years and like what I see in her for the benefit of Stevens Point.  First of all, for many years she owned and promoted “Sugar Doll Chocolates and Gifts”, a downtown business.    She knows the importance of small businesses and a strong downtown in the economy of the City.

Secondly, she promotes neighborhoods with many housing options.  These include affordable workforce and senior living, a mix which appeals to potential employers and employees.  She is quite sensitive to and understands the economics of the Stevens Point area.

Finally, Mary collaborated with Alder David Shorr on the Green Tier Legacy Community report.  It was my privilege to see this year’s report..  It was complete and impressive.  It is the centerpiece for the Bird City Wisconsin application for this year.  It should help Stevens Point become a Bird City for the 9th year in a row.

It has been obvious in her several years on the City Council that Mary brings many things to her job: Confidence, assertiveness, patience and loyalty to community.  Why seek a new alderperson when the one we have is performing so well?

Join me in supporting Mary McComb in the Primary election on Feb. 19.
