PLOVER — The debut of Plover Library’s Red Carpet Movies event starts on Jan. 29. Award-winning book-to-movie adaptations are featured at the weekly matinee events, all free of charge.

“This is the first year of the event,” said Plover Librarian Laura Fuller. “We thought it would be fun to host something along the lines of an ‘Oscar Party’, where people who enjoy movies can get together and celebrate the best of the year.”

Teens and adults are the main demographic for the festive film events. No registration is required prior to showings, and naturally, there will be cinema treats.

“We will have beverages and snacks … of course popcorn will be among them.”

The four weeks of films build up to an Oscar movie predictions contest. Participants can submit a ballot at the Plover Library, picking their choice for this year’s Oscar-winning films. Moviegoers will also have a shot at a second prize.

“We do know that we are going to have at least two prizes,” Fuller explained. “One will be from among event attendees over the four weeks. The other will be from among all forms turned in at the checkout desk at the Plover Library.”

Fuller and her peers see the event as a means to bring more people into the library, giving the public an enjoyable activity during cold weather. They also encourage guests to leave with a book or film, and maybe make a new acquaintance.

“Most people love to be swept away by a good movie,” Fuller said. “In fact, it’s very similar to being swept away in a good book. This event will provide attendees with the opportunity to view a movie in a comfortable setting, with snacks, and the possibility of fun social interaction as well. There is something for everyone.”

Schedule:
Jan. 29 – Crazy Rich Asians
Feb. 5 – First Man
Feb. 12 – The Wife
Feb. 19 – Viewer’s Choice (Guests pick a film)
Call the Plover Library at 715-341-4007 for more information. Plover Library is located at 2151 Roosevelt Dr, Plover.
