Property tax postmark deadline extended to Feb. 1

City Times Staff
STEVENS POINT — Mail suspension due to extreme weather conditions has resulted in an extension in property tax payments.
The usual deadline for property tax payments to be postmarked is Jan. 31 for the 1st installment due. However, because of the suspension of regular mail pickup, the City of Stevens Point Comptroller-Treasurer’s office will be extending the postmark deadline for mailed property tax payments, from Jan. 31 (Today) to Feb. 1 (Tomorrow).
Please note that the mailed payments still need to meet the other requirements in order to be considered timely, including a proper and legible address and proper postage. Also, a 5 business day grace period for in-person and online payments is being offered.
The 5 day grace period expires on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 4:00 p.m.
This is the maximum amount of flexibility allowed under Wisconsin state law. If a payment is not either postmarked by Friday, Feb. 1 or received in the City Comptroller-Treasurer’s Office by 4:00pm on Thursday, Feb. 7, interest will be charged and the entire balance becomes immediately due and payable, regardless of the reason.
Despite the harsh weather, the Stevens Point Comptroller-Treasurer’s Office remains open and fully staffed during its regular business hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Residents may also pay online at www.stevenspoint.com/taxes but note there is a processing fee for using this service. A payment drop box is also available at the Strongs Avenue entrance to City Hall, immediately to the right of the glass entry doors.
