Letter: McComb willing to go above and beyond for constituents

To the Editor:
We’re writing to voice our support for incumbent District 9 alderperson seeking another term: Mary McComb.
We’ve been in our current district 9 house for 20 years raising our 3 children. We love the neighborhood, community, and Mary McComb. In her most recent terms as our local government representative, we, and several neighbors, have contacted and counted on Mary to jump into service on our behalf and help work through our issues. Although too numerous to list them all, a few notable examples would be:
A: Guiding us through opposing a re-zoning proposal. Our neighborhood is currently zoned as single-family and the proposal was to rezone a portion to multi-family. Mary met with us & several neighbors to personally get a feel for the area and scope of the proposal. Although initially favored by the Mayor and much of the planning committee, Mary realized this was not a great fit for the residents and westside neighborhoods that make up the proposed area. When explained and brought to light to the Common council, the rezoning was voted down unanimously.
B: After a high-speed residential vehicle accident on our block and serious neighborhood concerns regarding increasing excessive speed occurrences, Mary contacted police and city officials and got radar devices temporarily installed in the trouble zones. That had a substantial impact on the number of speeders though our streets and got residents and pedestrians feeling safer.
C: Although a minor proposal, Mary has spoken on my family’s behalf to the planning committee in support of our chicken permit request.
In summary, Mary has always been willing to go above and beyond for anyone at anytime regarding any issue in her 9th district. In fact, she has checked in with us periodically (without us initiating) to see how the neighborhood was doing, speeding updates, and asking if there was any questions or concerns regarding District 9. She’s an example to all of what a relationship between citizens and city officials can be.
