VIDEO: Top-ranked UWSP men’s hockey team beats Superior

Post-game interview with senior captains Tanner Karty and Stephan Beauvais, after the top-ranked University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) men’s hockey team remained unbeaten with a win over UW-Superior in front of a sold-out crowd at K.B. Willett Arena Saturday, Feb. 2.

UWSP (21-0-2, 6-0-0) took a 1-0 lead on a goal from sophomore Steven Quagliata at the 14:32 mark of the first period on an assist from Karty, while sophomore Zach Zech scored on an assist from junior Luke McElhenie at the 10:20 mark of the second period to make it 2-0.

Junior Austin Kelly scored 1:58 into the third period on assists from Quagliata and junior Brennen Miller to push the Pointers’ lead to 3-0, before Superior (7-13-3, 1-3-2) scored at the 4:00 mark to close within 3-1.

Karty added a goal on an assist from junior Kelly O’Brien with 2:44 remaining to close the scoring on the Pointers’ 4-1 win, as sophomore goalie Connor Ryckman made 19 saves.

UWSP will host UW-Stout (13-9-1, 0-5-1) for Senior Day in its final regular season home game of the year at 7 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena Friday, Feb. 8, before the Pointers close the regular season at fourth-ranked UW-Eau Claire (18-3-2, 4-1-1) at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.
