STEVENS POINT — School officials have announced the cancellation of classes, as well as after-school activities for Thursday.
This comes due to a winter storm that will hit the area Thursday morning. According to the National Weather Service, heavy snow is expected with a mixture of freezing rain over the region. Some areas will experience a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snowfall.
The heaviest precipitation is expected on late Thursday morning, with a possible 5-11 inches of accumulation. Ice accumulations of up to 1/10 an inch are possible.
“We believe canceling school and after school activities is the safest option for students and staff. This includes the 4K Open House events scheduled for Feb 7. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work together to ensure the safe transportation of our students.” – From an announcement on the Stevens Point Area Public School District website
