WIAA girls basketball brackets released

The WIAA released the tournament brackets for the 2019 girls basketball playoffs, which are set to begin Tuesday, Feb. 19.

Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) received the fifth seed in its Division 1 Sectional, and will host 12th-seeded D.C. Everest in a Regional Semifinal at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22. The winner will take on either fourth-seeded Chippewa Falls or 13th-seeded Oshkosh West in a Regional Final at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23.

The reigning Division 3 State Runner-up and third-ranked Amherst girls basketball team received the second seed in the top half of its Division 3 Sectional, behind top-seeded and eighth-ranked Freedom, and has an opening round bye.

The Falcons will host the winner of seventh-seeded Peshtigo and 10th-seeded Northland Pines in a Regional Semifinal at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, with the winner of that to play third-seeded and ninth-ranked Wrightstown, sixth-seeded Oconto Falls and 11th-seeded Tomahawk in the Regional Final at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23.

In Division 4, Pacelli received a fourth seed and a first-round bye, and will host fifth-seeded Auburndale in a Regional Semifinal at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22. The winner will play either top-seeded and third-ranked Colby, eighth-seeded Phillips or ninth-seeded Marathon in a Regional Final at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23.

Rosholt and Almond-Bancroft are both in the same Sectional in Division 5, as Rosholt received a fourth seed and Almond is an 11th seed.

The Hornets will open at home against 13th-seeded Wisconsin Valley Lutheran in a Regional Quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, with the winner to face fifth-seeded Marshfield Columbus Catholic or 12th-seeded Tigerton in a Regional Semifinal at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22.

The other half of the Regional bracket for Rosholt that would advance to the Regional Final at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, includes top-seeded and fourth-ranked Wausau Newman Catholic, 16th-seeded Marion, eighth-seeded Northland Lutheran and ninth-seeded Port Edwards.

Almond will open at sixth-seeded Edgar in a Regional Quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, with the winner to take on either third-seeded Loyal or 14th-seeded Tri-County in a Regional Semifinal at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22.

The other half of the Regional bracket that would advance to the Regional Final at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, includes second-seeded and fifth-ranked Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, 15th-seeded Pittsville, seventh-seeded Athens and 10th-seeded Wild Rose.

The WIAA State Tournament will be held at the Resch Center in Green Bay Thursday through Saturday, March 7-9.
