City to invest more in energy efficient projects

STEVENS POINT — City officials will invest in more energy efficiency, as they look to invest money into energy efficient projects moving forward.
Comptroller/Treasurer Corry Ladick noted that when the long-term capital plan was instituted several years ago, the budget left $50,000 annually to put towards such projects. While challenges have prevent the full $50,000 to be set aside, Ladick points out that $31,130 is left from the building and maintenance capital line item from last year.
In a city memo Ladick states:
“I would suggest that we dedicate that money to energy efficiency projects. The process of allocating those funds can be quite simple, each department could submit their best options for improving energy efficiency, and we could select the ones that are the most beneficial (greatest return on investment, other benefits such as replacing something that has maintenance issues).”
This creates a standing policy that money left over in the general building maintenance capital account would be shifted into energy efficiency projects.
