STEVENS POINT — Patrons and patients gathered at Alleviate Wellness in Stevens Point to learn about the healing properties of hemp from Colorado-based CBD company, Extract Labs on Feb. 16.
The team made the long journey to inform the community on the various uses of the “miracle plant.”
“Us being from Colorado, where we have access to many resources, I think it’s important to come and educate people in smaller areas who may not have the sources other cities do,” said Extract Labs Product Formulation Specialist Ramona Chesoi.
The event at Alleviate was the organizations first time in Wisconsin. They see the mobile “pop-up” program as a means to inform residents about the benefits of hemp and CBD extracts.
“We saw the city’s population, it was around 20,000,” said Extract Labs Representative Madi Smith. “Many other bigger cities have access to healing resources that are non-pharmaceutical. ‘We think it’s so important that small towns can also grab ahold of that knowledge.”
An educational seminar detailing the history of hemp and its medical uses also took place at the event, giving those in attendance a thorough framework on the multiple uses of the plant and its main active chemical, CBD. CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a non-psychoactive chemical that doesn’t get users “high.”
Advocates have touted the substance for its non-addictive and therapeutic properties. CBD has been known to aid in the treatment of anxiety, depression, arthritis and much more. Alleviate staff sees the event as a formative step in their mission to offer the populace an ‘alternative to pharmaceutical compounds. They intend to develop their catalog of seminars and programs offered to the community.
“We are hoping to do educational seminars on a monthly basis,” said Erica Craven, co-owner of Alleviate. “I want people to start to grasp the idea of what hemp is and the benefits of it.” Alleviate has its sights set on elucidating the enigmatic plant that is hemp. They feel it gives people in need of treatment a “safer way to heal.”
