For the Gazette
“If anything happens to me, the journals will explain everything.”
PORTAGE COUNTY – The Portage County Coalition for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention is hosting an alcohol and drug awareness event.
This was made possible through collaboration with the Marathon County Alcohol and other Drug Abuse Partnership with proceeds from the annual Raising Awareness Racing Against Addiction 5k. They will be showing the movie Written-Off Tuesday, February 26th, 2019 at 6:30 PM at the Dreyfus University Center at the University of Wisconsin -Stevens Point campus (1015 Reserve St. Stevens Point). After the documentary we will be hosting a panel discussion time for anyone who might have questions afterwards.
Winning many awards such as the Omaha Film Festival 2017 for Best Documentary, this story is about a man named Matt who wrote every day of his life into a journal. This journal explains everything that he went through on a day to day basis; Matt was a drug addict and wrote down everything he took, his journal. A documentary based off of a true story, stemming from the roots of Dane County, Wisconsin shows one man’s journey with his opioid addiction and the consequences.
This film shows a mother’s heartbreak and love, as well as the countless attempts to quit by Matt. He was a smart and loving young adult who was deeply misunderstood and could have gotten help. His overdose of Heroin and multiple other drugs was the cause of his death. Drugs and alcohol can affect more than just your physical well being, it can attack families, social life, mental health, work life, finances, and so much more.
