County purchases land at Steinhaugen Park

STEVENS POINT — County officials have moved to purchase 10.42 acres of land at Steinhaugen Recreation Area in Custer.
Funds for the project have been allocated by officials. The land value holds an estimated value of $150,000. However, the county will acquire the land for $50,000 with Steinhaugen Inc. making a restricted donation of $100,000 for the rest.
Land purchased according to resolution: Lot 1 of Certified Survey Map Number 10701-48-131, being part of Government Lot 3, Section 19, Township 25 North, Range 9 East, Town of Sharon
In 2015, the county made a similar purchase of 270 acres of land from Steinhaugen for use of public hunting and hiking. The latest purchase comes in efforts to continue to expand county area parks.
The funds for the purchase will come from the Portage County Land Preservation Fund.
