Your CBD: hemp rush surges in Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT — A hemp rush is surging through Portage County as the plant garners both local and national
attention.
Your CBD Store, a new shop focused on the healing substance, is aiming its sights at educating the area on the medical values of hemp, and its main active chemical CBD.
“Right now we are on a stage, and everyone is watching,” said Your CBD Manager Monte Mueller. “We have to represent CBD properly, or else people will have this distasteful idea in their head about what cannabis and CBD is.”
Mueller is a Waupaca native with a degree in environmental science from UW-Milwaukee. He spent several years living in Oregon as a professional cannabis grower. The cannabis ‘connoisseur now focuses on promoting an accessible platform for hemp education in the community.
Your CBD is one of many new hemp shops to spring up in the area since the implementation of the 2018 Farm Bill, which legalized all hemp and CBD products containing less than 0.3 percent THC. But the new “green” center is concentrating their efforts on educating those seeking treatment, not recreation.
“It’s a place for people who are looking to heal,” Mueller said. “That’s why we are here.” ‘Molly Harris, and her husband, John, own Your CBD. The Amherst couple decided to start the ‘hemp shop after trying CBD for their aging family dog.
Around the time of Harris’s hemp investigations, her sister-in-law opened up a franchised Your CBD in Waupaca during October in 2018. The opening gave Harris the momentum she needed to share the “amazing plant” with the Stevens Point area.
“After my sister-in-law opened her store we got to talking, we wanted to spread the news of CBD,” she said.
Since their opening day in Stevens Point on Feb. 8, Your CBD has assisted locals in their ‘personal healing endeavors. Everything from CBD dog treats to tinctures can be purchased from the establishment, all with guidance from knowledgeable staff. The group is also looking to work with regional vendors.
CBD has grown from an obscure chemical to an embraced form of healing seemingly overnight ‘in Portage County. As its popularity expands, so does the public’s curiosity. Harris and her peers are happy to be at the forefront of the CBD movement, and feel that when it comes to hemp, “knowledge is power.”
