WHITING — A Portage County Life Scout is working to improve the Whiting area by further developing a section of “abandoned” trail in the Upper Whiting Park area.

Preston Schleihs, 15, is spearheading the upcoming trail project, slated to break ground in late spring or early summer. But the Scout and village officials need help picking a name for the new trail.

“I like all the names I wrote, I had a list of 12, and I cut it down to four,” Schleihs laughed.

Whiting staff will be discussing names with the community in coming newsletters and on the village’s website. Schleihs submitted several notable titles for the trail, which include references to surrounding streets and park areas.

Other individuals in Portage County are welcome to submit title ideas to the Gazette via Facebook to be forwarded to Whiting officials for consideration. What do you think the trail title should be?

Schleihs’s trail name ideas: -River Loop Trail -Upper Lower Loop -Strange Loop -Waterdeep Trail
