Trivia Spotlight: Festivus for the Rest of Us

STEVENS POINT — Sometimes the trifecta just isn’t enough, and for Festivus for the Rest of Us, they will attempt to win their fourth straight title on trivia weekend.

Formed in 2001, and now captained by Jeremy Fritsch, the team’s success stems from childhood friendships, and a bond formed over hours and hours of preparation.

“I think it all comes back to the strong bonds of friendship our team shares,” said Fritsch in an interview with the Gazette. “Many of us have been friends dating back to high school or earlier (some as far back as early childhood).”

The squad has put themselves into the elite of trivia history, as not only have they finished in first place over the past three contests, but finished in second place from 2013-2015, then first place again in 2012.

“Of course there is a lot of prep work that has to be done over the course of the year, but I think that bond helps to drive that and keep people motivated to try to win again.” said Fritsch.

Inspired by Seinfeld, the group takes their name from notable character George Costanza’s father, Frank Constanza, who in a 1997 episode created the holiday “Festivus” as a response to the commercialization of Christmas.

“We had a lot of people who really enjoyed that show, so it was a fun nod to a TV show many of us still throw quotes around from whenever we see each other.” said Fritsch.
